Spain 2016- Part 1 (Seville)

Hi and Assalamualaikum :) Peace be upon you

Seville is the capital and the largest city in Andalusia (Southern Spain). It was founded by Romans, and Seville was known as Roman City of Hispalis
In 7th century, the Moors, Muslims from Africa conquered Seville. It was the capital for the Kings of Umayyad Caliphate. In order to become the city with organised administration, one city should have these 3 ‘pillars’ but my bad, I could only remembered 2 of them: 1) The place for worship purpose, 2)Palace. I got this info from Mr Aswad, the tour guide for this trip. As usual, the Muslims built mosque for them to pray and there’s Giralda. Islamic influences still remains.

Giralda was originally built for by Muslims as minaret. Giralda is now part of the gothic-architecture of cathedral. It is remained as the bell tower of the cathedral. We arrived there pretty late that we cannot really witnessed the great design of Giralda. I (as usual) shot a few photos even though it could not be clearly seen.

Beforehand, we visited Plaza de Espana, the “Spain Square” in English. It was built in 1929 (quite recent compared to any historic landmarks). It is a landmark with architectural-mixing between Renaissance and Moorish (Muslims). Since part of this architecture were Islamic-inspired, a fountain could be found there, right in the middle. Also, there are painted ceramic benches representing all the provinces in Spain round the square. Another 2 towers present on each side of the semicircular galleries.

Today, it is used as cultural meeting place.

Also if you would like to have a gondola riding experience, yes you could have that here. I’m not really sure about the price, you could check it online. The people looked having so much fun riding those gondola. For your information, it is called “the Venice of Seville”
